Meet the Barber
Dena Spencer has been barbering since 1977. Her Grandfather, Oscar Wagner, was a barber in Germany before coming to America.
She began her path towards barbering in High School and hasn’t looked back since.
Dena, a single mother of five, worked at multiple barbershops in the Southern Tier throughout her career. But it was her dream to open her own shop where the entire family would feel comfortable.
As she worked at a barbershop in Montour Falls with her dear friend George Harriger, she also began the process of acquiring property. After purchasing an old gas station/truck stop, she continued working while remodeling the run-down building.
Spencer’s Family Barbershop opened in 2003 in the heart of Horseheads, NY and is now considered a staple on Main Street.
Did You Know?
The only “living” part of a hair is found in the follicle as it grows. The hair strand above the skin has no biochemical activity and so is considered “dead”
On humans hair can grow everywhere except for a few places such as on the palms of the hands the soles of the feet and on the lips.
